Untapp’d: The Social Network For Beer Drinkers

What Is Untapp’d?

Untapp’d is a social network, like Foursquare, except instead of checking into places, you’re checking into beers! And if you want to get all technical, it does also let you share you’re location when you’re drinking.

My favorite feature is that Untappd lets you share what I’m think of a beer and what my friends think of the beer that they’re drinking. Untapp’d isn’t filled with your classmates from high school that you really could care less about (because they probably drink Bud Light), instead it’s filled with lots of craft beer geeks, beer bloggers and lots of generally cool people. You may even find someone in another state that’s willing to trade local beer with you!

Seeing all those delicious beers that my Untapp’d friends are drinking, can make me pretty jealous. However, they have a wishlist feature that allows me to add those awesome beers and other beers that I hear about, so that I can save them and look for them when I’m shopping.

Looking for the latest Dogfish Head creation or hoppy beer from Stone? The newest feature let’s you search for beers in your area. It’ll show you where people are drinking those beers.

And how could I forget all of the badges? I’d talk about them now, but there’s so many that it could be it’s only blog post.

How Do I Use Untapp’d?

Untapp’d is really easy to learn and a lot like most other social networks out there. You can use it on your computer or your phone. However, it’s not an app, just a really bad ass website (except for when it’s acting buggy – think Foursquare issues a year ago).

To check into a beer, it’s as simple as logging in (or signing up). Then you click on the “Drink Up” tab if you’re on your smart phone or find the search box if you’re on your computer. Then you search for the beer by name or brewery.

Then it let’s you check in to it, add your location if you’re checking in via the phone and leave a comment and rating about the beer.

Each check in, brings you closer to a badge. But I think the real benefit is getting to know other craft beer drinkers, craft beer spots and of course lots and lots of cool craft beers.

Friend me up on Untapp’d and let me know what beers you’re drinking!

I'm a former coffee blogger, but I’ve been getting to know some really good craft beers and really getting into home brewing. I couldn’t resist starting this little project called Passion For The Pint. When I’m not blogging about coffee or beer, you can find me exploring New Orleans’ wide range of eateries, rooting for the New York Yankees (don’t hate me, I’m originally from New York), working out to burn off the beer calories or reading about beer.
